As a holiday resort that to a great extent exists on nature’s terms, it’s very important that we don’t leave an environmental debt to future generations. Facing the current threat of climate changes, we wish to lead the way by giving our guests a climate-friendly and eco-friendly holiday alternative – without sacrificing your comfort or your enjoyment of a full range of experiences. When staying at Skallerup Seaside Resort, you’ll probably be making a smaller impact on the environment than would be the case at home – even if you’re using the hot tub in your holiday cottage, spending hours in our hot Roman baths or just enjoying any of our many other facilities.
Skallerup Seaside Resort was the first of its kind in Denmark to offer CO2-neutral holidays! Here are a few examples of why the holiday at Skallerup Seaside Resort is a holiday in which you’re assured of a good eco-conscience. GROUND-SOURCE HEAT: All 152 spa houses are heated through environmentally friendly heat pumps, which supply all heat to underfloor heating, radiators and hot water. The heat pumps in our spa houses are far more gentle and sustainable in their impact on the climate than many other heat sources.SOLAR HEAT: A system of solar panels covering 488 m2 has been installed at the resort’s main building – roughly corresponding to the living space of four single-family houses. During the summer months, the plant provides plentiful heat to the central building – including heating of the water in the water park, swimming baths and ROMULUS – totalling almost one million litres of water.CO2-NEUTRAL STOKER: An automatic stoker in the bolier house building kicks into action when the solar heating system cannot produce enough heat – in particular during the winter season. We use energy willow, which is a CO2-neutral, eco-friendly fuel – unlike oil, which is a fossil fuel. All the willow used in til stoker is grown on the fields in the local area. ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY SAVINGS: We have entered into an agreement with the Danish Energy Agency with regard to the reduction of electricity consumption year-on-year. The agreement is made according to ISO 50001. Every year Det Norske Veritas as an independent third-party check up on the content of the agreement and issues a certificat, that we comply the standard.CO2 CERTIFICATION: To ensure that we keep our goal of being CO2 neutral we prove all energy consumption by a yearly report. The report is a part of our technical quality management made according to ISO 14064. This agreement is also supervised by Det Norske Veritas.
